With my first GIS class, I discovered what I could do with my geography degree.
With my first cartography class, I knew what I wanted to do for my career.
Certified as a Geographic Information Systems Professional (GISP) by the GIS Certification Institute (GISCI) which promotes the advancement of proficient GIS professionals by certifying their knowledge and experience (Credential ID: 90844).
Graduated with distinction with a Master of Science in Geoinformatics. My thesis focused on participatory mapping in Caribbean small island developing states (SIDS) and designed a conceptual framework integrating participatory mapping into a climate change framework, illustrating how—in combination with scientific data—local knowledge can be used to address climate change adaptation and mitigation efforts in regions with insufficient data.
Completed geospatial coursework in remote sensing, spatial analysis and modeling, enterprise GIS design and development, spatial databases, human geography/GIS, and coastal planning.
Taught geoinformatics (photogrammetry, remote sensing, GIS, and spatial analysis) as a Lecturer for an undergraduate course on Soil Surveys and Land Evaluation in the Faculty of Food and Agriculture.

Completed a certificate course at the "GIslands" Advanced International Summer School on GIS and Islands: Climate Change and Coastal Environmental Planning organized by the Research Center in Biodiversity and Genetic Resources (CIBIO-Azores) where I studied the use and development of geotechnologies for the support and facilitation of planning and management for climate change adaptation in coastal and island environments.
Graduated magna cum laude for my Bachelor of Science with a major in Geography and minors in Portuguese and in Latin American History. I conducted senior independent research on the objectives, processes, benefits, and conflicts of participatory mapping and a senior independent cartographic project mapping the Caribbean island of Old Providence, Colombia.
Completed geospatial coursework in cartography, GIS, historical geography, cultural geography, urban geography, political geography, human geography, planning, architecture, and geology.
Worked as a GIS Lab Monitor and Tutor assisting undergraduate students in GIS and Spatial Visualization classes with technical questions in ArcGIS, IDRISI, and the Adobe Creative Suite. I also provided research support for a faculty project on remote sensing via unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
Served as a GIS Intern with the Heritage Protection Group providing a quantitative emergency response analysis and as a GIS Project Specialist with Engineers without Borders indexing and georeferencing aerial imagery in Honduras.
Continued volunteering as a Girl Scout Leader for a troop of girls I'd started working with as a Program Aide (PA) when they were only kindergarteners/Daisies and I was in middle school.
Co-founded Middlebury Geographic (inspired by National Geographic Magazine), a student interdisciplinary journal combining quality journalism, narrative photography, and creative cartography, and served as the Managing Editor and Cartographer.
Designed to celebrate the academic work, independent research, and worldwide adventures of Middlebury students, MiddGeo strives to continue the college’s tradition of international awareness, diversity, and critical inquiry and received the Middlebury College Outstanding New Organization Award in 2011.
I am so proud that Middlebury students still carry on our legacy today, nearly two decades after we first dreamed this publication into existence in 2008!
Studied abroad at the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (a C.V. Starr-Middlebury School Abroad) and completed geospatial coursework in urban geography, alongside classes in Latin American history and Portuguese.
Conducted interviews and research for an internship on urban planning and the movement and participation of the popular representatives in the Participatory Planning Directorship of Florianópolis.
Volunteered as a co-leader for a troop of Bandeirantes (Girl & Boy Guides) and chaperoned them at a country-wide campout in the countryside of São Paulo to celebrate 90 years of the Brazilian Guide Movement.
Enrolled in Middlebury's intensive seven-week language and culture immersion program for Intermediate Portuguese (Level 2) in 2008, earning credits in Portuguese towards my Bachelor degree and in preparation to study abroad in Brazil.
Audited Middlebury's intensive nine-week language and culture immersion program for Beginning Arabic (Level 1) in 2005 as a 16-year-old high school student—the youngest in Middlebury Language Schools' 100+ year history—in preparation for future studies abroad in the Middle East.
Worked as an Administrative Assistant at the Language Schools part-time during my undergraduate school year for three years and full-time for two summers managing phones and student inquiries, helping with housing analyses, supporting graphic design needs, and producing a video segment interviewing students of the Portuguese School.
Studied abroad for a gap semester between high school and college at the Kalimat Language and Culture Centre (Middlebury College's approved study abroad program in the Middle East at the time), earning credits in both Modern Standard and Egyptian Colloquial Arabic towards my Bachelor degree.
